As one of 300,000 children forced from their homes after Hurricane Katrina, Beau Boudreaux remembers those dreadful days vividly. A high school freshman when Katrina made landfall in 2005, the now 33-year-old businessman has a plan to help safeguard victims should a similar disaster ever strike Greater New Orleans in the future.

It’s been 17 years since Boudreaux and his family were stranded on the roof of their home waiting to be rescued. After fleeing the Big Easy with the clothes on their back in August 2005, Boudreaux will now be doing his part to make future dark days a little “brighter” when he launches Brightway, The Boudreaux Family Agency insurance in Metairie Monday.

“Katrina changed everything for my family and me. As a high school freshman, it really helped me put a focus on life in a hurry,” Boudreaux said. “One of our other neighbors found a boat left behind in our neighborhood and they came and floated up to our rooftop. We spent the next several weeks just hoping for some sort of answers as we moved from one destination to the next.” Boudreaux and one million others fled from the flood waters of Katrina. The path of his family’s exodus which began high atop their own home would take them from shelter to shelter, from boat rides to airports and eventually to a safe haven 500 miles away in Batesville, Arkansas.

“Losing our home really put a new focus on life for me,” Boudreaux added. “As a result, being able to help others however possible is just a big part of who I am today. You know, as a young boy, I remember I always wanted to be a pro ball player. Today, my life has truly gone in a whole new direction.”

Although Boudreaux’s office brings more than 15 years of combined insurance and sales experience, the Katrina survivor actually did make headlines for several years on ballfields across the south. A highly touted amateur athlete at Archbishop Shaw High School, Delgado Community College and the University of New Orleans, Boudreaux earned high school All-State honors (baseball, football) and collegiate All-Region honors (baseball).

Holding a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a focus on marketing from the University of New Orleans in 2015, Boudreaux will immediately employ Johnathan Caside and Patrick Moore, two licensed insurance agents working out of the agency’s Jefferson Parrish location. A third member of the team will be joining the office this coming February. His mother, a civilian specialist within the U.S. Navy for more than 30 years, and his father, a specialist with Cox Communications for the same length of time, set the tone for Boudreaux’s work ethic and drive he has carried with him since his first days on the ball field and now to his lifelong dream of owning his own business.
