A child of a blue-collar Great Lakes family, 23-year-old Amir Omar is putting his passions to work right here in Greater Detroit next week when he unveils the area’s newest business.
This Monday, the entrepreneurial insurance specialist will launch Brightway, The Amir Omar Agency insurance office in Southfield. First licensed to sell insurance while he was a college sophomore, the Dearborn Heights native has worked in the industry for the past four years.
The son of a local chef, Omar understands what it takes to turn passion into success in the Motor City. “My dad ran the Al Ameer Restaurant for years when I was younger. I worked with him a lot in those days,” Omar said.
“And, that was when I learned a couple of important things. Most of it revolved around the fact that my family works hard for what they have. So, to be able to help businesses and families that give the same effort day in and day out is truly something I’m proud of. I can’t wait to make a difference here at home.”
Coming from a family with several medical professionals, Omar initially planned for a life in medicine. “I quickly saw an opportunity in insurance,” Omar added. “Being able to work and earn a good living as a teenage college student is something that motivated me from day one.
The Northwestern Highway venture is Omar’s first business of his very own. Born in Toledo, Ohio, the transplant Wolverine was raised in Dearborn. A resident of Dearborn Heights, Omar’s family immigrated to the United States from Lebanon before his birth. Today, Omar holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan (’22) and is a 2018 graduate of Crestwood High School.
